Apple Ships Directly from China?

I recently ordered an Apple iMac and finally got a FedEx tracking number today.  I logged on to check the shipment status and my jaw dropped when I saw the shipping origin.  Shanghai, China?!  WTF?!  With the bad rap China has been given over the last few months regarding exploding laptop and cell phone batteries, lead in Dora the Explorer toys and even chemical burns on feet I think maybe Apple should think different about this.

rickshaw.jpgYeah, we all know their products probably come from China, but we don’t want to think about it or be reminded of it.  Sorry, but I had a fantasy of my iMac coming from near the coveted headquarters on 1 Infinite Loop, or at least somewhere near there in California.

We pay a premium for these awesome computers…so Apple, please don’t ruin our fantasies by shipping from China.  Kthxbye.

I agree. I found out the same way and I had always assumed Apple was an American company. I guess capitalism will always win out in the end. It just felt like I had been cheated on. I think it would be different if China was associated with quality instead of cheap crap.

Apple ships from China because they build in China. Apple builds in China because it’s a lot cheaper than building in California. Unless you either want to pay twice as much for your Mac, then you’re out of luck.

I doubt you’d want to wait an extra two weeks so that Apple can ship your new system to California, and then ship it to you from there, but then at least you wouldn’t have to see the word “China” on the FexEx tracking page.

This has to be the dumbest blog post. Ever.
