The Lazy Man's Way to Web Site Design

I’ve spent the last couple of years really brushing up my skills in the area of PHP, MySQL, CSS, Javascript and who knows what else.  But, I still find the task of web design to be time consuming and tedious as hell.

So, I’m going to embark on a journey and try to create an easy system for building a nice looking web site – and hopefully one that doesn’t LOOK like a template site.  This post will be updated as I gather more info and links on the subject.  So… stay tuned.

Instead of trying to build a web site from scratch, my rough idea is to start with an existing web site template.  Find a template and use that as the foundation.  Modify/customize it so it has a more unique look instead of the usual idiotic sites that have happy looking people wearing headsets.

So anyway, here’s where I am so far.  I just found a couple posts and discovered this pretty awesome web site at the same time:  Found it via this article: 40+ Free One-Column Web Site Templates.  Here is a complete list of the web template resources I found within that article:

I’m also experimenting with – a place where people will do stuff for you for $5.  But, there is a catch.  I’ve noticed some peeps try to lure you in with a $5 price and then come back and say it might be more.  I’m going to do a few test runs and see how it goes.

Making a mental note… later mention data harvesting/collection by using Amazon Mechanical Turk.  More on that later.

Also, may investigate creating a template from a Photoshop PSD file… as there are many people on that can convert from PSD to a working web site template with CSS file.

One more note.  I think I’m going to lay out a technique for building a kick ass web site all by using slaves on sites like Amazon Mechanical Turk and Fiverr (and perhaps other sites).  Will build one site and go from there.  This could be fun!

Ok, gotta run for now.  I’ll be back.
