I recently ran across plans and a video showing how to build a homemade underwater video camera housing – which is perfect for snorkeling or going underwater a few feet.  I couldn’t find all of the supplies locally and honestly was a bit too lazy to hunt them down.  So, I bought a kit and built my snorkel box that way instead.  I managed to get the underwater housing finished in time for a recent trip to Isla Mujeres, Mexico where we swam with the giant Whale Sharks that show up from around June – September every year.  The snorkel box worked very well and I managed to get some great footage of the Whale Sharks as well as other tropical fish swimming around the reefs in the area.  Watch below for Whale Shark video using this snorkel box kit:
